Study shows that cities dense with trees are filled with rich folk and cities sans trees are crammed with poor folk! Well, duh! Trees are decorative, cost a lot to maintain...only hoity toity 'hoods like Piedmont, Woodside, Portola Valley can afford that!

LA Times: "A new study involving an unusually large sample of homes sold in California between 2007 and early 2012 has documented that, holding all other variables constant, a green certification label on a house adds an average 9% to its selling value."  So glad the tide is turning & people see the value of eco-friendly housing!

A group called Pink Cloud (love that!) are creating an energy efficient low cost house converted from an oil silo. Talk about recycling! It's projected to cost $200k each. One silo can house 3 families, so that is about $60-$70k per family! Super affordable.

It's like Star Trek, Mork & Mindy and the Jetsons coming to life!

Winner of the Department of Energy's bi-annual Solar Decathalon in DC is WaterShed! Congrats!  Check out the stunning features that aren't only easy on the eyes but also kind to Mother Earth. The one detail that wouldn't fit me is the conference table that converts to bed (Video 0:55). For me, it would be a pain to clear off my big project just to sleep. I'd rather leave all my paperwork on the table and crash on the couch!

Nevertheless, I hope this catches on to the mainstream. Going green doesn't mean sacrificing aesthetics. You can indeed be a trendy tree hugger!
