I guess this happens in all cultures!
Not only do young Chinese women have to fret about finding a home to rent, they gotta worry about finding a boyfriend to rent!  Societal & family pressure is so strong in China for women to be dating an eligible dude that females be resorting to hiring gigolos, er I mean, "rental boyfriends" to trick their family and co-workers! - especially during the Lunar New Year.  Why we gotta be so hard on women!?

SF Bay Area Housing Reality: Loooong Commute or Smaaallll Home....Unless You is Rich!

Regular folk ain't gotta prayer to stay near San Jose/SF. SF Chronicle reports:
Squeezed by astronomical home prices and rents that are almost as unaffordable, a growing number of Bay Area residents are pulling up stakes and trading long commutes for cheaper housing.

They're heading to places like Tracy, Mountain House, Patterson, Hollister and Los Banos. Some are buying bigger homes and others are renting for much less, hoping to put money aside for a down payment of their own one day, in a replay of the eastward migration during the dot-com boom.

Whitney Houston's astounding career peaked in the 1980's... and so did her house, apparently! (Can't you see Blanche Devereux getting dolled up in that bathroom?!) Originally listed for $2.5M, it is now back on the market for $1.5M.

One of the greats! Her songs are the soundtrack to my childhood. RIP!

7 Homebuying Mistakes to Avoid: If you’re on the housing search, sidestep these homebuyer pitfalls -by Susan Johnston for Us News & World Report

"For most people, a home is the largest purchase they’ll ever make, so choosing the wrong property can have disastrous implications for their wallets and well-being. Still, many homeowners feel a strong sense of pride in putting their mark on the property, building equity and having a place to truly call their own. Whether you’re a seasoned or first-time buyer, here’s a look at seven homebuying mistakes to avoid.

1. Using the wrong real estate agent. Just because your sister’s college roommate’s friend just got a real estate license doesn’t mean she’s the right agent for you. San Francisco real estate agent Herman Chan suggests vetting agents and looking for someone who does real estate full time and knows the local inventory. “You can lose an offer if you’re not responsive in a couple of hours,” he says. Request the agent’s sales data, and find out how he or she communicates. Chan recommends asking questions like these to gauge the agent’s tech-savyness: “Is it OK if I text you? Is it OK to DocuSign things? If I can’t make an open house on Sunday, can you shoot me a video?” If you prefer to check texts and emails on your phone, you may not want an agent who insists on faxing contracts.

2. Shopping before you get preapproved. Before you get serious about buying real estate, find out how much mortgage you qualify for and get a preapproval letter from your lender. “If you fall in love [with a property], write that offer and then find out you can’t afford it, it’s an emotional roller coaster you can’t afford,” Chan says. Many agents won’t even take buyers to showings until they have a preapproval letter for that very reason.

Bob Hope's pretty little desert gem has no takers at $50 million.  A reduced price of $34 million hopefully will yield some buyer who'll need a 24,000 sq ft home on 6 acres with 10 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. The house looks like a museum, very photogenic...but would I live there? Hmmm, I dunno....

Why The Rise of 300 Sq Ft. Micro-Units in San Francisco?

...if you’re in your 20s, why be stuck in your apartment when you could be out exploring?”
The next time someone asks you why anyone would live in basically a dorm sized 300 sq ft apartment in SF for $1800/mo, Sacramento Bee has the explanation:
“People in Gen Y, which covers people 18 to 32, are fine with small spaces. They look at the place where they’re sleeping as a bedroom and the neighborhood as their living room.” -Alan Mark

Berkeley Albany Pacifica Cupertino Santa Clara Most Exciting Suburbs in ALL of America!

Berkeley is ranked #3, which is no surprise. (But Pacifica?! Wow, I never woulda guessed). Business Insider via Movato explains:
This East Bay gem has plenty to offer excitement seekers of all hair lengths.

Of course, with UC Berkeley in town, the 18 to 34 group is going to be plenty large; it sits at 43 percent, to be exact. Plus, with it being part of the notoriously health conscious Bay Area, a sixth place finish for active life options isn’t unexpected (there are parks and yoga places everywhere). What you might not be expecting, though, is that this seemingly laid back suburb has a lot of nightlife.

From bars such as Jupiter and the Albatross, to world-renowned venues like the Greek Theatre, it’s a fantastic town to hang out with friends after dark or take in an A-list act

The host of the reality show "Ghost Adventures" bought a home in Gary, Ind. that was the site of multiple exorcisms by a Catholic priest and bone-chilling experiences by government officials who also investigated.

I don't care how cheap a deal this is! It is just too freaky for me. When 4 exorcisms AND the feds fail, you know the devil has set up shop! Oh Lord-y
