The salacious photo of the cowboys was not my doing, I promise! Logo did it!...although if that's what Southwest living is all about, I will move in a heartbeat.

Q: I miss the warmth of Florida, but I couldn’t find banking work there . I want to relocate again soon because I cannot stand Cincinnati and the cold winters here. I am considering the areas from Texas to Arizona – can you advise me on which towns both have the lowest unemployment rate and the largest GLBT population?    -Doug, CT

Read my recommendations here. Do you agree?

Meanwhile, if you gotta question for me,  LOGO says "Ask YOUR real estate question!"

Herman, Austin used to be the liberal place in Texas, that spot has moved north to Dallas. We have more prgressive DEmocratic local politicians then Austin. Sexual orientaion is protected in the city of Dallas in Employment as well.

Austin is great; they have a wonderful college town attitude and many denizens sport T-shirts reading “Keep Austin Crazy”. Houston is good, too, as it is so large you’re anonymous, plus it has a great night life.

You forgot to mention that Austin Teaxas is in Tornado Alley. I use to wake up Saturday Mornings look outside the Sun be shinning. Get dressed ready to go out to Hippie Holow. (Nude Beach) it be raining. The people are very nice. Good luck on your quest. P.S. I live in Phoenix, AZ. It has already hit 100 here. Our summers are really hot. But we are Gay Friendly. Banks are on Every Corner. Their is 3 Chase Banks in less then a mile from me.

Texas state politics is an embarrassment. It’s dominated by right wing (Repub) nut cases. Remember, the Bushes are a product of this environment. This is the state where rednecks dragged an African-American behind their pick up and decapitated him. This is the state where rich oilmen claim they don’t have poor people in their county (Midland) because they are run out of town (to Odessa). This is where the narrow-minded people (in Galveston County) defied the Supreme Court and said “christian” prayers before adolescents went out to assault and traumatize each other in what is called a Texas football game. I graduated from high school in Amarillo. I’ve lived for years in Austin and my son was born there. I also lived many years in Houston-Galveston. I’m glad that I no longer live anywhere hear those places. I’m sure that Texas residents are glad that I no longer live there either.

@coxhere thanks for sharing your texan experience! despite all that you’ve said (and i’m not disagreeing with you necessarily), why do you think dallas and austin are still a draw for LGBTQ peeps?

I don’t get why any hot blooded OUT gay man or lesbian would move into the HATE STRONGHOLDS of Texas or Arizona? You are better off heading North to Colorado as well as sticking with real SW of New Mexico…Jobs are obviously a big thing, but does it really need to be in a place where GAYS are NOT WELCOME? The answer is NO, unless you are prepared to find your gay world surrounded by BIG hate and Huge ignorance or just a little hate and stupidity.

wait a sec….you could not find a banking job in Florida? Are you sure you put in applications? I live in a small town in Florida, and there are banks 2 or 3 at least on every corner of this city. There has to be a bank for you….

@Herman, yes it already got to 100 degrees here in Phoenix, but only one day. The temps are back in the 70s now.. But FYI, a dry 100-110 degrees here in Phoenix feels infinitely better than 85 degrees with 90% humidity! Just sayin! Phoenix is actually a great city.. most of the repuglicans are in the suburbs of Mesa/Gilbert/Sun City.. Central Phoenix/Tempe/Scottsdale is very diverse and gay friendly.. Tucson is a great city too, and a lot more liberal than the Phoenix area.

Yes, Tucson is awesome! We’re much more liberal than the rest of the state and the people are, in general, very accepting of everyone. I’ve never felt any worry about walking around downtown or going out shopping and holding my boyfriend’s hand. We haven’t yet hit 100 but probably will before the month is over.
