![]() Debbie Gibson & me at the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation event, sponsored by Svedka Vodka. Watch my disco video for Svedka. I was aiming for Lady Gaga, but I think it ended up more Lady BlahBlah! It was great to come out for a good cause. There IS more to life than real estate! ![]() I hosted the 2nd Annual Golf Tournament for AREAA at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club. I had a fantastical time emcee-ing the dinner, showcasing the fashion show by Tiana Vega and raffling over 50 prizes (including an ipad2!). Featured guest was PGA Golf Professional Will Robins. I was offered a few golf lesson but I declined (I look horrible in plaid!) I am honored to carry the night for such a great group of real estate professionals! Contact me to host your next event! Kara Swisher and I were both speakers at the Better Homes & Gardens conference earlier this year in Las Vegas. It was wonderful to see her in action again at this dot429 event. When she is not keeping Eric Schmidt, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates et al in check, she runs All Things Digital. You see, when Kara talks, people listen. Her speech last night was sooo on point! The big players in the tech world are predominantly "older white straight men". As a proud & out lesbian woman, she is a rarity, especially given her ginormous public persona. "Basically it's a sausage factory!" (Her words, not mine!). I commiserated with her afterwards that it was the same in the real estate upper echelon. As a proud & out gaysian who wears his heart (and mouth?) on his sleeve, I know for a fact I've been blackballed in some quarters. I asked her how she deals with any backlash for her brash critiques & brutal honesty about the insular tech world. DON'T BACK DOWN. Glad we're on the same page, Kara! Thanks for paving the way! Here's my video for WORKopen, a collaboration between dot429 and Saks 5th Ave, to encourage people to come out at work. ![]() "Come meet Herman Chan at our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament, Dubbed the Internet Sensation Videoblogger by Realtor Magazine, Herman is the undisputed Realty Expert whose helpful & hilarious commentary on HGTV, House Hunters, MONEY Magazine, MSNBC has made him everyone's favorite Real Estate Personality!" I've heard all the jokes today about Easter being my birthday....any more?! *He(rman) Has Risen! *Just call me J.C. (Jesus Chan) *2nd coming of christ! Here's the only birthday-esque photo I could find of myself. (I forget the other model's name, sorry boo. But photo is from a series shot by the fabulously talented Billy Winters. The middle pic in my top banner is also from the same session) ![]() When I met Tamara Suminski last year in New Orleans during the National Association of Realtors Conference (aka Nardigras), she was such a ball of sunshine....like me! Tamara is the current Chair for California Association of Realtors' Young Professionals Network. Well, as luck would have it, we are going to share the stage come April 20, 2011. We've been invited to speak about "Mastering Technology in Real Estate." Check out the flyer for deets. PS: I love how there are 4 languages on the flyer! I speak Chinese & English. I hope Tamara speaks the other 2! ![]() I just got off the air with the one and only Mother Love! She is everything that I aspire to be: smart, caring & sassy. With both our larger than life personalities, we had the most stupendous time. That hour just zipped by! I hope her audience not only got a kick out of me but learned a few things about the real estate biz too. Mother Love grilled me about anal retentive agents, real estate TV shows, McMansions & why I started my videoblog. She also reveals her pet peeve when she was shopping for a home too! After the show, I got a message from a listener: "Thank you for discussing real estate in a funny accessible way!" What can I say, it's my schtick. My favorite excerpt: Mother Love: Where do you see yourself in 10 yrs? Hermanity: Married with children! j/k.... I'll have my own TV Show Click here to listen-on-demand. Let me know if I have a career in radio!
I was tickled pink when my gal pal Nicole Seidman asked me to guest-host on her show "Katching up with the Kardashians." You have seen Nicole as a red carpet reporter for Hollyscoop, hosting for Gift Bag Robin Hood on STYLIT.TV, and web show called "Keepin it Real, the Ultimate Reality-Show After-Show." Her prior guest hosts include DeAnna Pappas ("The Bachelor"), Marcy Guevera (VH1's Cut Off) & CaCee Cobb ("The Price of Beauty", Jessica Simpson's assistant)
This was taped and broadcast LIVE , so no editing or re-do's allowed. Nicole re-capped the latest Kardashian episode & I touched on their business acumen....with plenty of one-line zingers of course! Let me know how I did! Exactly one year ago, the first webisode for HabitatForHermanity.com aired! A star was born. What began as just a fun side project has blossomed into more than I could have imagined. Thanks for watching and supporting my videoblog. I am constantly told it's a breath of fresh in the real estate biz....and I hope to keep it that way! xoxo Herman PS: Let's revisit the webcast that launched it all. Enjoy the walk down memory lane ![]() My personal friend Nicole Seidman has asked me to guest-host on her show Catching Up With the Kardashians! She wants my take as a Real Estate/Business Expert on the ever-growing Kardashian Empire. Um hellooo, they pulled in $65M clams in 2010 alone. What else is there left to say!? Plenty, trust me! This will be LIVE so tune in February 22, 2011 at 11am PST here. ![]() I'm speaking at Rainstorm! Fabulous event put on by Real Estate Blogging Site ActiveRain. I hit the stage at 8:13pm exactly. Don't be late! It's raining men...hallejuah! ![]() Apparently, I am headlining this event for Asian Real Estate Association of America. I dunno why, because my fellow panelists are equally if not more qualified to discuss "Successful Social Networking" than me. Maybe I am the prettiest? Or the most modest? I'm excited to be on stage with fellow UC Berkeley Alum Senh Duong, who pioneered the famous film review site Rottentomatoes.com. I want to get his take on my favorite films Fame and Elvira Mistress of the Dark Below is Dao Tran's interview with me before I hit the stage! ![]() The Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Chorus Line is Hitting Las Vegas! (Or you can always get 20% or more off at the Kodak Real Estate Store with this special link http://kodak.com/go/redeal) If you can't make it, don't fret. I will post pix and video! It was a whirlwind weekend in New Orleans for NARdigras, the National Association of Realtors Conference! My 2 topics were I ♥ Videoblogging and Pop Culture & Real Estate: How Media has changed the Role of the Agent. Being in a sea of realtors, I was amazed perfect strangers recognized me from www.HabitatforHermanity.com (like the gals at Agent Image). Todd Carpenter, Manager of Social Media for the National Association of Realtors, also called me out as a blogger and we had a lovely chat. Check out his video of me for RealtorTV on the right. I later met up with Mike Aubrey, Host of HGTV's Real Estate Intervention, who is just a good egg. And then I conversated with my gal pal Wendy Cole, Senior Editor at Realtor Magazine, who says she hopes my article will be published January 2012. It wasn't all work! I partied at the Young Professionals Networking Event as well as the Better Homes & Garden bash at the W Hotel, with BHG CEO Sherry Chris & VP Wendy Forsythe. A big thank you to Kodak for inviting me to speak, along with other renowned Real Estate Influencers like Terri Murphy, Nicole Nicolay, Shannon King, Bob Corcoran, etc. Kodak's got an amazing array of stuff for Realtors! For example, if you want to be a videoblogger like me or David Snook, start off with KODAK Zi8 Pocket Video Camera that shoots in HD. Pretty snazzy. It comes in black, aqua or raspberry. The businessman in me wanted the black, but the businesswoman in me wanted the raspberry.....of course I went with the raspberry! At the NARdigras EXPO, Todd Carpenter (National Association of REALTORS Social Media Manager) had the gall to call me a "Big Internet Blogger." (I can't believe that Crawfish Étouffée I scarfed down last night showed up around my waist so fast!). Anyhoo, Todd interviews me about videoblogging for RealtorTV (0:55-1:25). Enjoy!
Re-living an old habitatforhermanity.com episode for my adoring audience in Las Vegas. The thrill of a live audience is amazing! Thank you for all the Hermanity fans who came out to see me. Much needed validation of my material and humor. I was Guest Speaker for "Technology Driven Top Producers" for real estate event put on by www.areaa.org/EDGE & sponsored by Wells Fargo. Totally sold out event! Standing room only! There was even a couple who flew out from Arizona to see me! Here are some pix from the event on my facebook fan page (almost 6000 fans thus far!).
