OH NO! Another Casualty of SF Astronomical Rent: Haight’s Homeless Youth Drop-in Center Shutting Down. What About the Children?!
This is sad. The Homeless Youth Alliance is closing down this Xmas. The owners of the building terminated their lease, and plan to bring in a new commercial tenant. A city needs safe havens for homeless youngsters! My friend Steve Elias came to SF with nothing and stayed here while he got on his feet. He since went on to become a highly renowned stylist & is now Editor-In-Chief of TANTALUM Magazine. Not sure if that would have happened if he didn't have a place to crash temporarily.
SF 'Landlords From Hell' Jailed For Terrorizing Tenants, Fleeing Country & Being Jerks! (She Was A Realtor Too!)
Ashley Madison, the infamous hook up site for married people seeking affairs, posted the top 10 cheating neighborhoods in San Francisco. SF Weekly reports: "San Francisco is a great place to have an extramarital affair, especially in the wealthy enclaves of the city, where you are most likely to find a cheating spouse". Hoity Toity Pac Heights, Fidi, & Marina Districts lead the pack. But you can't just blame the men. I know a whole lotta females who vulture these 'hoods hoping to marry up too! Just sayin'
Touring Sunday open homes in a congested city like San Francisco is already hard enough, but it's gonna get worse! Realtors, make sure you load up on coins before you pick up your client on Sunday b/c SF is charging for parking meters on Sunday now! Tip download the app Pay By Phone so you can pay via your phone/ipad and even add more money/time remotely. So useful!
SF & Oakland in Top 10 Highest 2012 Rent Hikes in Nation. What?! Oakland's Increased Twice as Much as SF!
Harking back to SF Bay Guardians cover story last year, maybe it's true! CNN Money ranked the top 10 cities with the highest rent jumps. No surprise, SF made the list (duh) w/ a 5.8% bump. But not only did Oakland make it , but rate of rent increase zoomed past SF by 11.6%! Who the heck can afford SF now? Average rent for 1 bd in SoMa is $3000/mo.
SF's New Micro-Apts Are 220 Sq Ft: Dang, At a Packed Party, a Girl Can Get Knocked Up & Not Even Know It!
Wired Magazine has the full deets here. Some ppl are complaining these only cater to young single professionals in San Francisco, when the city should be luring families to remain (Ppl with kids are leaving in flocks!). It seems SF has approved them, so families will have to muddle thru somehow.
At any rate, ladies, if you get invited to a party at one of these cube homes, keep your legs crossed!
Silicon Valley is the hot bed of technology! ....But everyone wants to live in San Francisco. So corporations like EA, Yahoo, Apple, Facebook, Google have private shuttle systems to ferret their little worker bees to work and home. These are secret lines, but my peeps at Uptown Almanac have published it!
From Huffington Post: New research finds that this West Coast-East Coast culture clash isn't just media stereotyping. In fact, people living in the east coast city of Boston closely link their overall life satisfaction with how content they are with their own social status. In San Francisco, residents don't make the same connection, reflecting a more individualistic, free-to-be-me culture.

2 hot men walking in SF. Surprise, surprise
Walkability is the hottest trend in real estate! Unlike prior generations, the new crop of buyers driving the business is Gen X, Y, Millenials who don't wanna drive 20 minutes to get a latte! Homes located close to things to do, shops, cafes (aka LIFE) sell faster and for more than those homes where you need to hop in a car. Who wants to commute to buy groceries!?
If you are shopping for a house, try to stick to properties that have a high walk score. It will be better for re-sale value, less harm for mother nature and most importantly, you'll burn more calories walking to cool stuff to do.
Is your city on the list of the nation's most walkable cities? If not, check out WalkScore which ranks how walkable your property is!
