Somebody be trying to prove something...Honestly boys, just whip it out, measure and get it over with, o-KAY?!?! LOL!
I used to walk past these 2 homes each day on the way to class when I was a young little thing at UC Berkeley! They were in disrepair then, and they are even worse now. They are on sale for $1 each in order to make way for the new Acheson Commons development. Kind of sad to see an old home razed but exciting to see what is in store!
This Florida couple have set out to build the tackiest, er I mean, largest house in the good ol' US of A! A knock - off of the Palace of Versailles, the 90,000 sq ft property will also feature movie theater, bowling alley, a skating rink, a gym and a wine cellar with room for 20,000 bottles. Unfortch, they still have $30M worth of work left to do and are only 2/3 done! This classic /cliched story of over-leveraging yourself to chase the American Dream is captured in a new documentary that debuted at Sundance!
This creative for-sale sign has gone viral! The whole world is talking about this Oregon woman who used the fact that her hubby left her for a 22 yr old yoga gal to her advantage to market her house. What I love about this story is that she just told the truth. She is being honest. And THAT is why it has taken the internet by storm. Not because she is some savvy marketer with a unique sales pitch. Plus, a dose of humor & her self-deprecation helped a lot too! Check out her story, pix of her house and more here: www.greatfamilyhome.com. Good Luck Elle! I'm rootin' for ya!
Here's my latest video for eHow.com. We got a questions about dual agency. Some agents are staunchly against representing both sides of the transaction while others think it is ok. Personally, I can't sleep at night when I'm stuck in the middle. How do you equally advocate for 2 parties that have diametrically opposing agendas (especially when one side is paying you!)? What do you think?
Being 4 ft long & 3 ft high, the Barbie Dream House scaled to real life would be a measly 126 sq ft! The average $/sf in Malibu is $854/sf, which would mean Barbie's Dream House would cost a paltry $107k. Seems like a fantasy to live in such tight quarters, but it's reality now. Check out these micro-apartments in San Francisco. They are only 150 sq ft!
These solar-powered 'Super-trees' in Singapore will soon be covered in vegetation and provide some really awesome green benefits to the city's new 250-acre landscaping project (via Daniel Phuong)
Record exec David Geffen, ranked by Out Magazine as the most "Most Powerful Gay Man in America" in 2007, snaps up a 12,000 sq ft Manhattan apartment. Dayuuum, he already owns the unit below too. Geez. Totally relevant factoid: Cher used to be his beard! He romanced the diva in the early 80's. They were the pre-cursor to Will & Grace!
I had a terrific time at the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals 2012 Business Expo! Thanks for inviting me to speak about social media, videoblogging and being Hermanity!
I love everything about this story! As kids, this couple fantasized about living in this Missouri castle (yes Missouri, USA. Go figure) near their home. Well fast forward to now, after going thru several owners & renovations, the once $2M castle was snapped up in foreclosure by this young couple for $395k! Somebody get these ppl a TV series to document this palatial remodel!
The rich lady who owns this $35M mansion in Malibu went all out to get her listing noticed! She hired a Hollywood crew to produce this gorgeous movie trailer...but will it sell her house? The video apparently is being only sent to specific potential buyers on gift-wrapped ipads! Wow! I'd love to be on that shortlist.
...which I have never heard of nor seen (the Beatles are WAY before my time) . But nevertheless, the quirky hotel looks like it's worth a visit, based on novelty alone!
Two real estate con artists rented out vacation homes in the hoity toity Hamptons, and then sublet-ed the properties as venues for the spoiled teenagers' prom parties. They made off with hundred of thousands of dollars until neighbors complained and the police busted them! Even Kim G (of Bravo TV's Real Housewives of New Jersey) gave her daughter $510 to attend one of these parties.
Did you know that home inspections are not regulated by the state? It's kinda scary to know any Joe Schmo could call themselves a home inspector and advice you on the biggest purchase of your life. (Even I could claim I'm a home inspector...I can't hammer a nail to save my life! Gotta protect my Lee Press-Ons). To ensure you get a qualified inspector, make sure:
As consumers increasingly rely on sites like yelp to find a real estate agent, they gotta realize those reviews are often gamed! For instance, Yelp revoked membership to an LA business networking group that was operating a 'review-swapping ring'. They gave each other tons of 5 star ratings. Very misleading! And I know real estate agents doing the same thing too.
This Massachusetts optician paid off his mortgage with pennies! He dropped off 2 boxes weighing 800 lbs at his bank as the last payment on a house he & his wife bought back in 1977. A penny saved is a penny earned!
